Dan Turcanu, violinist-composer, often recording piano, viola, classical and bass guitar.
Dan's early training was strongly focused on violin and piano, with a special attention for ensemble and orchestral training. At the university he studied classical music with a primary focus on world music research and also neoclassical ballet. He has received numerous prizes in national and international competitions, one of the latest award - winner of the Featured Division at the International Horn Society Composition Competition - 2023 for the work 'Sentimental Story' - for French Horn and Piano.
Dan has been actively teaching violin, viola, piano, composition and classical guitar for more than 15 years, having young and adult students, aspiring professionals or amateurs. He enjoys accompanying his students during lessons, exams or recitals and often composes and music specially designed for his students.
As a performer Dan favours small ensembles, having often concerts in Eastern Europe, Germany or Austria, with a repertoire centered on unknown composers or unknown pieces of famous composers. He often performs solo recitals of his own works.
As a composer he has collaborated with musicians from top orchestras around the world, eg. Munich Philharmonic, Teatro alla Scala Milano, Seoul Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.
Dan particularly enjoys helping students taking music composition with their GCSE composition exams and often helps young composers with orchestration arrangements and harmony.
