Piano Faculty: Caroline Eaton Ryan Ellis Raymond George Oliver Grant Margaret Macpherson Lloyd Matthew Eileen Stone Olga Zeidel Traditional and Suzuki Piano Lessons are taught at the school. Both methods of teaching are hugely successful and popular with children and adults. Please see a brief description of these instructional styles.
Traditional Piano, the student becomes familiar with the keyboard and is introduced to various symbols used in music notation. Dynamics, rhythm, phrasing and form are also covered. Focusing on the keyboard provides opportunities for improvising and composing. It improves sight reading skills and ultimately gives the student a good understanding of music.
Suzuki Piano originated in Japan and is very popular around the world. Suzuki students have great note reading and ear training skills, in addition to a strong and secure technique. Biographical information on composers in general and those represented in method books are covered. A particular strength of this method is that it presents performance opportunities in a very positive fashion, so that the students view them as a pleasant and enjoyable experience. Parents are involved in the classes from the beginning.
